The Battle of Homestead Foundation is pleased to be a sponsor of The Battle of Blair Mountain Centennial, one of the most important labor history commemorations happening in the U.S. this year. The
5-day Battle of Blair Mountain in August, 1921, was the largest armed conflict on American soil other than the Civil War, as thousands of West Virginia coal mining families joined the United Mine Workers of America to rise up against a violent syndicate of rapacious mine owners.
From Sept. 2-9, 2021, the Battle of Blair Mountain Centennial will be celebrated across West Virginia with scores of public events including films, concerts, re-enactments, art and museum exhibits, symposiums, storytelling, faily activities, walking tours, the annual UMWA Labor Day Rally and the Coalfields Heritage Festival.
