Annual Commemorations of the Battle of Homestead

EACH YEAR the Battle of Homestead Foundation remembers the 1892 Battle of Homestead with a special program at the historic Pump House in the Rivers of Steel National Heritage Area, Munhall, PA. The videos below document the festivities and the Foundation’s commitment to preserving American Labor History … filmed and edited by Pauline Greenlick.

*  July 6, 2023 — featuring live music from May Day Marching Band, Pittsburgh Labor Choir, Raging Grannies; Allegheny County Councilor Anita Prizio reading “A Proclamation Recognizing the 131st Anniversary of Battle of Homestead”; Battle of Homestead Foundation board members John Haer, Charles McCollester and Patricia DeMarco providing historical perspective on the past events and present legacy of the Battle in 2023.

*  July 6, 2022 — featuring musicians Mike Stout and Jason Kendall performing Mike’s original songs “Give Back this Stolen Land” and “The Day has Come”; historical background by Dr. Joe White, University of Pittsburgh Emeritus Professor, highlighting 130 years of labor events since the Battle of Homestead; “Why 1892 matters in 2022” – remarks by John Haer, Rosemary Trump, Tammy Hepps, Steffi Domike, Maura Bainbridge, Jennifer Rempel, Suzanne Donsky, Jacqui Cavalier, Joe Szalanski and Homestead Borough Mayor John Burwell.
