The Lilly Story.

by Feb 9, 2017Jim Hohman, History, Videos

In 1924 the little central Pennsylvania town of Lilly, near Altoona, was targeted for a massive Ku Klux Klan demonstration because local coal mines hired Catholic immigrants and fired Klan members.

The residents of Lilly engaged the Klan forcing the Klansmen to flee in disarray, but not before mortally wounding three Lilly residents.

Lilly’s resistance to the Klan’s demonstration proved to be the beginning of the end of the Klan’s advance in the Northeastern United States.
